Youtuber

Rachel began making Youtube videos around 2018 and has now amassed over 344,000 subscribers, over 52.5 million channel views and continues to grow rapidly as she makes entertaining but educational videos covering books, poetry, science and social issues she cares about like feminism, pro-LGBTQ+ topics, being childfree by choice, and her own journey with autism

Poet

In recent years Rachel has been writing and performing her own poetry and has been interviewed for and featured in Poetry Cove Magazine.

Her first short poetry collection, ‘Reflections on Healing: poems’ was published in 2023 and has been described as ‘beautifully written and beautifully put together’. It explores the journey of healing from trauma while combining strong natural imagery with her real life experiences of difficult families, abusive relationships, mental health struggles and many women’s struggles to maintain bodily autonomy.

Over the last 3 years Rachel has become a confident performer and storyteller on stage with notable performances including performing alongside Heard Collective at Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts 2022, being featured at Charlotte Campbell’s Songwriter Rounds at 3 Locks Brewery, Camden, and various Leeds-based performances at Left Bank, Northern Guitars and Wapentake, amongst others.

Her second book, ‘Outside’, is a large collection of photography, poetry, art and essays and will be published in early 2025.

Photographer

Rachel specialises in photographing live music but just loves being behind the camera at any opportunity. She has photographed artists like Celeste, The Hoosiers, Stornoway, The Longest Johns, The Covasettes, Baby Queen, Everyone Says Hi, Willie J Healey, Ten Tonnes and many more at various festivals and venues around the country.

Artist

As an artist Rachel creates beautiful nature-inspired illustrations, watercolour and acrylic paintings and loves to experiment with colour and texture. Her work has been exhibited at the The GREAT Leeds Fungi Exhibition 2024.

She is currently available for poetry performances, interviews, and other projects.

“[a] multi-talented content creator, eclectic artist, dog-mum and now poet”

Shen Friebe, Poetry Cove Magazine (2022)

“The way Rachel Oates talks about the poems she disliked and the way she addresses her arguments are so passionate that she sowed doubts in my mind. She made me question everything.

I truly value her opinions. She helps me to grow as a writer.”

Julia Appa, The Brave Writer (2021)

“Rachel Oates' first poetry pamphlet is beautifully written and beautifully put together. Each of the seventeen poems is well worth diving in to and the photographs included are a lovely bonus.”

“I think the poems in this book really seek to soothe one's inner child. Speaking directly to the wounds within and the unhealed parts of you not ready to be addressed- Oates writes about these themes in a way that is both gentle and thoughtful.”

Reflections on Healing Reviews

“These were cute, witty little poems that I think anyone can enjoy whether you are a dog lover or not.”

“I truly loved this, it was really cute and wonderful and lovely and the photos were the cherry on top of the cute little poetry book that this is!”

“I love the way ‘Kyra’s’ voice shine through. There are also some sweet, emotional poems that really compliment the goofier ones.”
