It's funny, sweet, and heartfelt.”
She recently performed her latest spoken word poem, Romb, a piece about women and AFAB people’s reproductive rights and her own choice to remain childfree, at Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts 2022 as part of Heard Collective.
She is currently performing her poetry at small venues in North and West Yorkshire, is writing a non-fiction book about poetry with the working title ‘Anyone Can Read Poetry’. Her first poetry pamphlet, ‘Reflections on Healing: poems’ is available now and has been described as ‘beautifully written and beautifully put together’.
Her second book, ‘Outside’, is a large collection of photography, poetry, art and essays and will be available 30th November 2024.
She is currently available for poetry performances, interviews, and other projects.
“[a] multi-talented content creator, eclectic artist, dog-mum and now poet”
Shen Friebe, Poetry Cove Magazine (2022)
“The way Rachel Oates talks about the poems she disliked and the way she addresses her arguments are so passionate that she sowed doubts in my mind. She made me question everything.
I truly value her opinions. She helps me to grow as a writer.”
Julia Appa, The Brave Writer (2021)
“Rachel Oates' first poetry pamphlet is beautifully written and beautifully put together. Each of the seventeen poems is well worth diving in to and the photographs included are a lovely bonus.”
“I think the poems in this book really seek to soothe one's inner child. Speaking directly to the wounds within and the unhealed parts of you not ready to be addressed- Oates writes about these themes in a way that is both gentle and thoughtful.”
Reflections on Healing Reviews
“These were cute, witty little poems that I think anyone can enjoy whether you are a dog lover or not.”
“I truly loved this, it was really cute and wonderful and lovely and the photos were the cherry on top of the cute little poetry book that this is!”
“I love the way ‘Kyra’s’ voice shine through. There are also some sweet, emotional poems that really compliment the goofier ones.”
